Question 5
What do Game Artists need to know?
One of the things that Game Artists need to know are what is required of them. The plot of the game they are designing and what might work best with the story line. Also they would most defiantly need the education to do the job. The Game Career Guide says, " A video game artist or animator should study the basics of fine art: art theory, art history, composition, color, form, space, and light. Just because video game artists compose their work on computers does not exempt them from having to understand traditional art" another says "Artists who want to work in the video game industry should know Photoshop well enough to create a few pieces of original artwork with the program that can be included in their professional portfolio"(http://www.gamecareerguide.com/features/413/game_art_and_animation_an_introduction.php). They need to have an education in basic fine arts, can draw traditionally and know how to work art programs. The Artist will need a portfolio to keep together to show to employers.
A site called Course Adviser says "The most important thing is that they should like video games. Companies want to hire someone who knows what makes a video game good and what makes a video game bad. They want someone who knows the difference between good video game design and poor video game design" Another quote from this site is "Another important attribute is good problem-solving skills. There are typically lots of challenges, bugs, and potential problems in designing a video game, ranging from collision detection to making things look convincing" (http://resources.courseadvisor.com/web-development/video-game-designer-job-description). Artist have to be able to spot problems and be able to fix them. Also to be able to determine if the idea and concept of the game is good or not.
